Value Matters – Nourishing Families on a Budget

Published on July 7, 2023

In today’s challenging times of rising costs and inflation, finding ways to save money without compromising on quality is a top priority for families. As a family farm, we understand your concerns. That’s why we’re proud to introduce our products, which are not only nutritious but also up to 50% cheaper than competitor brands – just compare the price per kg!

Why Price per Kilogram Matters:

Unit prices can be misleading, as different package sizes can make comparisons difficult. You may be buying 2 cheaper products, while a larger pack can offer a better value. By focusing on the price per kilogram, you can clearly see the real cost and value of the product. Our brand stands out by offering significantly lower prices per kilogram compared to competitors’ brands, ensuring you receive generous portions of fresh, healthy salad leaves while staying within your budget.

Price Checking Exercise:

Earlier this year we conducted a thorough price-checking exercise in the 3 largest supermarket chains. We compared our products with two other brands (let’s call them Brand A and Brand B for legal reasons). Both of those competitors are large UK suppliers, who package package their products abroad and ship a finished product to Irish supermarkets. This means that all the profits and support of the local economy and communities are exported back to the UK. But let’s get back to the price check and look at the details.

Baby Leaves:

McCormack Family Farms Family Pack 200g (Retailer 1) – €1.79 per pack, which equals €9.95 per kg

Brand A Baby Leaves 100g (Retailer 2) – €1.99, which equals €19.90 per kg. This is 50% more expensive than our leaves.

Brand B Baby Leaves 90g (Retailer 3) – €1.49, which equals €16.56 per kg. This is 40% more expensive than our leaves.

Baby Spinach:

McCormack Family Farms Baby Spinach 200g (Retailer 1) – €0.99 per pack, which equals €4.95 per kg

Brand A Baby Spinach 350g (also in Retailer 1) – €2.19 per pack, which equals €6.26 per kg. This is 21% more expensive than our spinach.

Brand B Baby Spinach 125g (Retailer 3) – €0.99 per pack, which equals €7.92 per kg. This is 38% more expensive than our spinach.

Rocket:

McCormack Family Farms Rocket 75g (Retailer 3) – €1.19

Brand A Rocket 60g (Retailer 2) – €1.59, which equals €26.50 per kg. This is 40% more expensive than our rocket.

Brand B Rocket 60g (Retailer 3) – €1.49, which equals €24.84 per kg. This is 36% more expensive than our rocket.

Remember to always check the price per kg when shopping!
