Our 40th anniversary!

Published on June 17, 2024

Last Saturday, the 15th of June, marked a special day for us — our 40th anniversary!

We celebrated Eddie McCormack and his wife Laura, who made a brave move in 1984, leaving their jobs and setting up a farm, with the support of their 3 young children: Stephen, Padraic and Edwin.

After a couple of decades of selling fresh produce at the Dublin Corporation Market for Warrenstown Horticultural College, Eddie decided that there was an opportunity to grow fresh produce that he saw imported every day to the market. He started growing on a couple of acres on a field at the back of the house. He specialised in various vegetables, mostly cabbages, but he also became Ireland’s first commercial grower of iceberg lettuce.

Years later, the farm ethos remained the same: to grow what has traditionally been imported. Eddie, together with Stephen, became the first to grow spinach and baby salad leaves on a large scale, and more recently, we started growing organic certified spinach, now cultivating the largest organic leafy salad area in Ireland.

During the event, Managing Director Stephen McCormack said: ‘It was a big decision to make in the 1980’s, because it was doom and gloom time. Would I have the courage to start a business like that now? Not a hope! It was a brave decision; it was a good decision! We get praised for what we have done with the farm, but it’s easy for Padraic, Edwin and me to continue what was already started. Today it’s about celebration, about Mammy and Daddy especially. It’s a very special day for us as a family.’

After plenty of rain earlier in the week, we were very lucky with dry weather, to enjoy the BBQ and activities with our colleagues, neighbours and friends. Check out the video below!

Here’s to another 40 years!
